We all know how much color impacts our design and it’s funny how much everything that is going on in the world impacts how we use color. We all know the rundown ‘color has meaning and we use it to evoke feeling with our audience and how they perceive our product’. For a while in the UI design space we have been moving towards a more minimal look and feel; relying on color to guide our users. As I was reading about the color trends, in 2019 we thought that we would use more bright and bold colors.

Yeah that didn’t really age well

As the monstrosity that 2020 came to be, we started to spend way more time on our computers and were bombarded by civil unrest amid the pandemic. Oh what we would do to feel calm as we were all going through this. well, turns out the trend for 2021 aimed more toward a calming aesthetic.

As we were spending more time on our computers we started to see that certain colors were more comfortable to look at. Colors like blue and green are easier on the eye and can offer more comfort. Other colors that are natural such as tans and cool colors offer a serene and calm feeling that we were all wanting.

Along with the serene colors, what was one thing that we could have used more of?

The articles I was reading mentioned harmonious color palettes as trending for 2021. Color palettes that are calm and serene are predicted to become even more popular. It makes us feel like the colors were picked for us and not solely for marketing. Theres more of a human connection when the colors chosen are pleasing to look at. Personally I think we will see a lot more interest with the tone of the color palettes. I think they will be softer and more muted in general like a dusty rose or lavender. I’ll highight a few of the trends that I think will be the most popular below

Analogous Color Palettes — A color palette that easy blends into one another like a gradient

Natural tones inspired by nature and skin tones.

Monochrome palettes with one brighter color
